Where to Start
We recommend for start-ups to keep it simple at first with a Facebook and Instagram account, then move on to pages on review sites like Google Maps, Houzz, and Yelp. If you haven’t done that already, get to it! Reviews are one of the most valuable assets your business can have.
Your next step is going to be creating a logo and tagline for your shop. You can hire a graphic designer for this, or try one of the free logo makers out there. Your tagline should be just a sentence or two that describes what you do and what sets you apart from the competition. The next step is to add your logo to all your profiles and add your tagline to your bio.
Once these are done and your shop has grown or been established for awhile, you can add a website to your online presence.
Keep it Simple
If you have the resources, hire a web designer to create a basic website for you. It should run between $800 – $2000 and will pay you back within the year as you get exposure. Or you can try your hand at a DIY site builder like squarespace.com.
Your site only needs 3 basic pages or sections: a home page, a portfolio page, and a contact page.
Your home page should have your tagline and some info on who you are and what you do. Your portfolio page should have at least 10 photos of projects you’re proud of. And your contact page should have your phone number, email, and/or a contact form. Add a few of your best reviews to one or all pages.

Taking it to the Next Level
When business is booming and you want to capitalize on the action your site is getting, it’s time to take it to the next level. Hire a web designer or agency to expand or redesign your site. Look for one that specializes in graphic design and search engine optimization.
Have a professional photographer take pics of your projects. Expand your portfolio with detailed project descriptions and show examples and inspiration for different rooms and materials. Add calls to action to request a quote or contact you on every page. Start a blog that will help you rank higher in Google and beat out your local competition.
